Rotary International Matching Grant Water Project                  Ocosingo, Chiapas, Mexico

The Rotary Club of Asheville West has taken up Rotary International's challenge to help bring clean, potable water to needy people in the world.  Partnering with The Starfish Fund, The Mills Family Mission, Hebron USA and the Mayan Synod, the Club will drill a well in Ocosingo to provide clean water for the new Los Manos de Cristo Medical Clinic.   The Clinic will bring much needed medical care to the indigenous Tzeltal Indian people of the region.

In an innovative twist on providing clean water, the project includes purchasing portable drilling equipment that will stay on site in Mexico.  The equipment will be available for other civic, church and Rotary groups to drill additional wells in the hundreds of small villages in the region without clean water.  For more information on the project contact Glenn Pierce.  To see Glenn's first visit to our partner club in San Cristobal, click on the link below.
